Get to know what you can experience as a Senior Ride Nashville member, including how easy it is to schedule rides, your time frame and destination options, and what you can expect from your volunteer driver. If you have a question not covered here, reach out to us at (615) 610-4040.
Am I eligible to use Senior Ride Nashville?
To qualify for a membership, riders must be at least 60 years old, live in Davidson County and reside in one of our current service areas, need transportation, and be able to transfer in and out of a vehicle with limited assistance.
Future-riders will complete an application, agree to the Rider Code of Conduct and will successfully complete a brief in-person assessment to ensure program eligibility and that the potential rider can safely participate in our program.
What is the Senior Ride Nashville service area?
We are currently offering services in the West Nashville, North Nashville (currently 37208 and 37288), East Nashville, Madison, Donelson, Hermitage, and Old Hickory communities. We will gradually expand to other areas, as volunteer capacity allows, until services are provided countywide.
Is there a cost to use the service?
Yes. There is an annual membership fee of $25 and each round trip costs $6. When joining, you’ll pay an initial fee of $31, which covers your annual fee plus your first ride. Applicants who are unable to pay the full fee are asked to call us to discuss further.
All trips must be prepaid to Senior Ride Nashville prior to scheduling a ride (no financial transactions, including tipping, should take place between the rider and volunteer driver). Riders who are not able to pay the full fee should call us to discuss further.
How do I become a member?
Signing up is easy! Call our office at (615) 610-4040 or email info@seniorridenashville.org to have an application mailed to you.
When are rides available?
Services are currently available Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm
How far in advance should I schedule a ride?
SRN requires 2 business days’ notice to make a ride request; however, rides should be scheduled as early as possible because SRN schedules on a first come, first served basis and is unable to add ride requests once the daily capacity has been met.
Are rides available on-demand?
Unfortunately no. Because rides are provided by volunteer drivers, we must have advance notice in order to pair you with a volunteer driver.
Is there a limit for destinations or total round trip time?
Riders can request one primary destination and a short (20 minutes or less) add-on stop on the way to and/or from the primary destination, making it possible to complete a maximum of three errands in one day with SRN. For example, a rider could stop at the post office on the way to their medical appointment and at the pharmacy on the way home.
What types of destinations does Senior Ride Nashville serve?
Many places! Rides may be utilized for trips to the grocery store, medical appointments, social visits - anywhere our members need to go. All destinations must be within Davidson County.
Is there a time limit to a ride, and how often can I schedule a ride?
Rides that require the driver to stay with the rider for the entire round trip must be completed in 3 hours or less. Rides that do not require driver assistance throughout the ride are not time limited. We are currently able to accommodate up to 2 round trips per week, per rider. All rides are subject to volunteer driver availability.
How will I be able to identify my driver?
Your driver will call in advance of the scheduled trip to confirm trip time and logistics.
Can drivers transport my wheelchair/walker/oxygen tank?
Riders may use a transport chair, walker, or portable oxygen tank. Use of this equipment should be noted at the time of ride scheduling, to ensure volunteers have space in their car. Riders should be able to transfer into and out of a vehicle with limited assistance.
Are there cognitive eligibility requirements?
Our main priority is that our riders can safely use our service. We know that some level of decline is to be expected; however, our drivers are not equipped to provide the level of care necessary for extreme cognitive decline. Senior Ride Nashville reserves the right to reassess program members if concerns about cognition and the rider's ability to safely use our program arise.
Can I tip my driver?
No. Volunteer drivers are unable to take payment of any kind. If you’d like to give back, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Senior Ride Nashville to support this service for other riders!
